Tooting Broadway is set to receive between £2-£5m for a major street improvement and pedestrian safety project. The aim is to help redesign junctions, streets and pavements to make them safer for pedestrians and raise awareness of safety issues among all road users.
Local residents are expected to be consulted by Transport for London and Wandsworth Council later this year, with scheme completed by April 2018.
Commenting on the announcement, Sadiq Khan MP said:
“We all know how dangerous Tooting Broadway can be – for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers – and for years I have joined with local councillors to call on TfL and Wandsworth Council to take serious action to make the junction safer, and more pleasant for everyone.
“I welcome the news that action is finally being taken, and my priority will be to make sure the plans that are drawn up work for everyone. I hope the council and TfL listen closely to local residents and I look forward to seeing what ideas are put forward.”
