2007 Christmas Card Competition
Sadiq's 2007 Christmas Card Competition
More than 900 local school children from 9 different schools
across the Tooting Constituency entered Sadiq’s Christmas
Card Competition this year – record numbers.
The judging
panel, with the tricky task picking this year’s winner, was
made up of several local prominent public figures, including
Stuart Lowe, Wandsworth Borough Police Commander, Father
William Hebborn of St Anselm’s Church and Jane Bruccoleri,
Chief Reporter for the Wandsworth Borough News and Guardian
and Sadiq.
5000 cards
have been printed and sent to
colleagues
and friends in Tooting, Westminster and around the world; as
well as to local businesses, churches, schools and community
organisations in time for Christmas. Also on Sadiq’s
Christmas Card list are the Queen, Prime Minister Gordon
Brown, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, London Mayor Ken
Livingstone football and Strictly Come Dancing legend John
Barnes, Winners of Wandsworth Civic Awards and all of
Tooting’s Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams.
The winner
of the Christmas Card Competition, Shanelle Taylor Hutton
(pictured with her teacher), 8yrs old, from Furzedown
School, was invited by Sadiq to meet the Prime Minister in
the Houses of Parliament and Show him her design.
Sadiq
arranged for the Prime Minister to take time out of his busy
schedule, after PMQ’s, to meet Shanelle. He asked
Shanelle about the card, why she decided to draw a nativity
scene and what Christmas meant to her. He also took the
opportunity to congratulate Miss Truscott on the Artsmark
Award Furzedown received last year for their outstanding
arts teaching and facilities.
The 8
runners up in the competition also get their designs printed
on the back of the card. Sadiq has visited all the schools
that entered the competition to hold a special assembly to
present the children with certificates for their fantastic
efforts.
