MP dons running shoes for Sport Relief

From the Wandsworth Guardian - by Alex Rucki

MP Sadiq Khan swapped his parliamentary uniform for running shoes to take part in the Westminster Mile for Sport Relief.

Mr Khan, who regularly enjoys a running on Tooting Common, went head-to-head with over 40 MPs and Peers to encourage the public to take part in the Sport Relief Mile on March 25.

The speedy MPs were joined by Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, and TV presenter Arlene Phillips.

Sport Relief Weekend, which ran from Friday to Sunday, aims to raise money to support people living in poverty in the UK and internationally.

Mr Khan completed the run in an impressive six minutes and 45 seconds.

He said: "I am delighted to have taken part in the Sport Relief Mile. I might not be the quickest MP, but I'm happy with my time.

"As we count down to the Olympics in London this year, there’s no better time to sign up to the Sport Relief Weekend and raise money for a great cause through sport."
