Every year Sadiq Khan invites primary school children from all across his constituency to design pictures for the front of his Christmas card. This year the response from schools was overwhelming, with 10 local primary schools submitting over 700 entries.
The entries were judged on 9th November by four community representatives; Reverend Andrew Davey of Holy Trinity and St Augustine’s Church, PCSOs Xuan Tung Dang and Malcolm Holmes, and Councillor Sheila Boswell. The judges’ task was made extremely difficult by the exceptionally high standard of the entries this year. They selected nine runners up whose designs appear on the reverse of the card.
The judges selected Alex Stilgoe’s design to appear on the front of Sadiq’s Christmas card this year. Sadiq presented Alex with a framed copy of the card, along with a certificate and the invitation for a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Each runner up receives a prize and every child that entered the competition will receive a certificate from Sadiq.
Sadiq’s Christmas card will be sent out to more than 4,000 families, businesses, ministers and celebrities across the world.
The cards were very generously sponsored by local businesses; Pooja Sweets and Savouries, Chicken Cottage, Bangla Bazaar, Prime Group and Dawat Restaurant, along with UNISON.

“My Christmas card competition is one of the highlights of my year and I was really pleased to see so many children take part in the competition this year. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who entered. The designs which were shortlisted to appear on the card are all fantastic, and Alex’s design looks great on the front and sends a really inspiring message.
“I would also like to thank all of the judges for giving up their time to make what turned out to be a very difficult decision. I’m glad I didn’t have to choose! I must also thank the sponsors who have very kindly supported the competition this year.”
Head Teacher Mrs Lilley said:
“I am delighted that Alex Stilgoe is the overall winner of Sadiq’s Christmas Card competition. I think his message is apt and thought provoking.
“Alex is thrilled with being the winner, he was shaking when he went up to the front of assembly to receive his prize. He is most delighted with the thought that his design will be seen by William and Kate.”
