Sadiq hosts biggest coffee morning yet!

Over one hundred local residents visited Mushkil Aasaan on Upper Tooting Road, for a community coffee morning hosted by the local MP, Sadiq Khan.

This is an event that Sadiq hosts every year, for older members of the community, and this year’s was the biggest ever.

Both Sadiq Khan and the Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Stuart Thom, as well as the Wandsworth Borough Commander, Chief Supt Richard Smith and Director of Nursing at St George’s Hospital, Jennie Hall, were there to welcome local residents and show them around stalls run by a variety of health and wellbeing organisations.

Organisations present included: the Furzedown Project, Macmillan Cancer Support, Wandsworth Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Blood Pressure UK, Wandsworth Age UK, local fire and police services and many more.

Guests were also treated to free blood pressure checks, and health checks aboard the Wandsworth NHS Health Check Bus.

Sadiq Khan MP said:

This is an event I am proud to host every year, and this time we set the record for the highest number of organisations and local residents present. More than twenty organisations came along to provide much needed advice, to almost 150 Tooting residents.

“It was great to bring so many organisations, the majority of which are local, together, in one place, as a one stop advice hub for local residents. I’m glad to hear that so many people picked up lots of important advice, and I also enjoyed the chance to catch up with friends in the community over a cup of tea.

“I would like to thank all the stall holders who came along and contributed to what has been another successful coffee morning. I would also like to thank every organisation for all the hard work they continue to do serving our local community.

Tooting resident, Phyllis Harewood said:

“I found this event useful in so many different ways. This was not my first time attending Sadiq Khan’s coffee morning, and it won’t be my last. I always have an enjoyable time and learn a lot too.”

Tooting resident, Carol Ann Ellis, said:

“What an informative event. There are so many people here, as well as lots of useful organisations, letting us know about the services that are available to us. Sadiq’s coffee morning has played an important role in promoting preventative action and the importance of staying fit and healthy.”
