Springfield Hospital appeal result delayed to avoid Mayoral election

The announcement on the result of the Public Inquiry into the Springfield Hospital Development has been delayed to avoid the Mayoral election on May 3rd, prompting fears from local residents that the appeal has been successful and the development given the go-ahead.

The highly controversial development has faced cross-party opposition after thousands of residents led a 4 year campaign against the plans.

Sadiq Khan MP said, “The Secretary of State, Eric Pickles, will have been considering this decision for months.

“If he agrees with me, thousands of local residents, the leader of Wandsworth Council and the Mayor of London that the development shouldn’t go ahead, then I fail to see why he can’t announce this on the 12th April, as originally planned.

“I fear the delay means he has bad news that he believes may damage the election chances of his Mayoral candidate.”
