A great part of being a MP is that Sadiq gets to host events in Parliament for local charities and community groups.
On Thursday 21st March, in the Jubilee Room at the Houses of Parliament, Sadiq welcomed the brave runners, who have signed up to run for St George’s Hospital Charity in the London Marathon and Brighton Marathon next month.
Giving to George’s, the St George’s Hospital Charity, supports the hospital by helping to fund state of the art equipment, funding clinical research and enhancing the working environment for staff, patients and visitors. They also invite applicants to run the London Marathon and Brighton Marathon every year.
The event was organised by the fantastic team at Giving to George’s Charity to thank the people who have signed up to run the marathon for the charity this year. CEO of St George’s Hospital, Miles Scott, will be part of the team running the London Marathon for the charity this year.
Last year’s runners also attended the event to give some advice to this year’s team.
Sadiq welcomed the runners, past and present, and also gave them an evening tour of the Houses of Parliament.
This year’s Brighton Marathon is on the 14th April and the London Marathon is a week later on the 21st April.
Sadiq Khan MP said:
“It was a real pleasure to welcome runners, past and present to Parliament. I enjoy running but never quite dared to do a marathon, so I have a huge amount of respect for everyone on the team who has signed up to run for St George’s.
“Giving to George’s is a fantastic local charity and I am sure the team will do a great job of raising lots of money for our local hospital. I will definitely be looking out for everyone on the day and I wish them all the best of luck. If you can, please take a moment to support this fantastic cause”.
Miles Scott, CEO of St George’s said:
"St George's is extremely grateful to Sadiq Khan and all our runners (past and present) for their outstanding support. The money raised will provide additional equipment and facilities in a wide range of clinical departments. More than that, the commitment to St George's is itself priceless.
“Our staff work tirelessly to provide outstanding care to people across south west London, Surrey and beyond. To know that these services are so highly valued and to be able to work with patients and their families to enhance the care provided helps us to deliver ever more excellent patient care."
