Yesterday Monitor, the NHS regulator, revealed that St George’s Hospital is running a £46million deficit for the next year – the third highest of any trust in the country. This is worrying news for for the people of Tooting who rely on St George’s and for the future of the hospital. You can read more about Monitor’s findings here.
Sadiq Khan MP said:
"From my many visits to the hospital, both as the MP and as a visitor to family and friends, I know how hard all of the staff at St George’s work – but we should be under no illusions about the severity of the financial challenges the hospital is facing.
"The hospital continues to be starved of the resources it needs, and my priority is to make sure that patients don’t pay the price.
"I am pleased to hear that Monitor will be working with St George’s to help improve the situation, but I will be calling on the government to step up and make sure St George’s has the funding it urgently needs to provide the vital services local people need."
